Jeff CollenCEO, Sealed Air YMCA

Roman was great. They were really thorough and took the time to make sure everything was right. Plus, we could joke around with them. We developed a great relationship.

Racine Sealed Air YMCA

The Sealed Air YMCA in Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, is a $14 million, 69,446 sq. ft. state-of-the-art family fitness center. This LEED-certified facility boasts a vast indoor aquatic center featuring two pools, a large water slide, a lazy river, and a splash play area for young children. Additional amenities include a spacious gymnasium, basketball courts, a running/walking track, cardio equipment, weight machines, free weights, fitness studios, dedicated rooms for spin and yoga classes, and a large drop-off child watch area. A notable feature is the building’s highly efficient LED lighting system, with the aquatic center utilizing a modified linear LED fixture to provide indirect lighting—a pioneering application in such settings.

Challenge

Roman Electric was tasked with implementing specialized wiring methods to accommodate the diverse functionalities within the facility, including the aquatic center, fitness studios, and child care center. Each area required a tailored electrical approach to meet specific operational and safety standards.

Solution

Employing Building Information Modeling (BIM) for cross-trade coordination, Roman Electric proactively identified and addressed potential challenges before they manifested on-site. This strategic approach ensured efficient installation of power and lighting systems throughout the facility, aligning with the project’s sustainability goals and supporting the YMCA’s mission to serve the Racine community.
