Roman Electric | Amazon Sortation Facility
John BiggartProject Superintendent, Clayco

Roman really stepped up to the plate and got it done. They jumped through some big hoops to complete the work on time and get Amazon into their building. Their quality was wonderful and they're a very safety-conscious company. It was just a pleasure to work with Roman and we'll definitely hire them again.

Amazon Sortation Facility

Amazon’s expansion in Kenosha, Wisconsin, introduced a 514,011 sq. ft. state-of-the-art sortation facility designed to streamline last-mile delivery operations. This one-story, 40-foot-high building features mechanized conveyors leading to 105 hydraulic docks, facilitating efficient package processing. Roman Electric was entrusted with delivering comprehensive electrical solutions, including power and lighting installations, to support the facility’s high-demand operations.

Challenge

The project operated under an aggressive timeline, requiring the completion of extensive electrical work within a condensed schedule. Coordinating the installation of high-capacity electrical systems in a rapidly progressing construction environment posed significant logistical challenges.

Solution

Roman Electric mobilized a dedicated team of up to 30 electricians, working seven-day, 80-hour weeks to meet the project’s demanding schedule. Leveraging prefabrication capabilities, the team manufactured systems and assemblies off-site, enabling swift on-site installation. The facility was powered with three 3,000-amp services and illuminated by 600 high bay fixtures, while over 100 exterior fixtures provided site lighting. Additionally, 24 rooftop 20-ton AC units ensured a fully air-conditioned environment, supporting the facility’s operational efficiency.
