Immanuel Presbyterian Church, Milwaukee’s oldest congregation, embarked on a significant renovation to modernize its historic 1875 structure while preserving its architectural integrity. Located on Milwaukee’s East Side, the project included constructing a new southeast addition that seamlessly blends with the original Wauwatosa limestone exterior. The addition features a new entryway, boardroom, and two restrooms, achieved by excavating beneath the existing building to optimize space without altering the church’s historic façade.
Roman Electric successfully removed the existing electrical service and installed a new 1200-amp system with updated metering, ensuring no disruption to the church’s historic appearance. The team implemented energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the facility, including recessed can lights accessed via the attic, horizontal strip lights in the chancel, and vertical spots and floods to accentuate architectural features. With advanced dimming controls, the lighting system offers customizable ambiance for various activities, reducing overall energy consumption by approximately 40%.
