24/7 Emergency Service

PROJECTS

Dan WargoletProject Manager, J.P. Cullen & Sons

It was the toughest job I've ever worked on. We could only temporarily shut down one track at a time while freight and passenger trains continued running on the other four tracks. Roman was as flexible with the schedule as they had to be and they didn't complain. Everything was laid out, coordinated and connected so everything worked. Roman did a very nice job for us.

Intermodal Station

The Milwaukee Intermodal Station, located in downtown Milwaukee, serves as a pivotal transportation hub connecting over 1.3 million passengers annually to destinations such as Chicago and Minneapolis. The $22 million, 18-month renovation project encompassed significant enhancements, including the installation of a truss roof with skylights, a mezzanine spanning all five tracks, three elevated boarding platforms, a refurbished passenger tunnel, new staircases and escalators, elevators, advanced ventilation systems, modern lighting, updated signage, and a state-of-the-art sound system designed to assist passengers with hearing aids.

Challenge

Executing the demolition and reconstruction of an active train station without disrupting daily train operations posed a significant challenge. With freight and passenger trains continuously running on four of the five tracks, the project required meticulous planning and coordination to ensure safety and minimize service interruptions.

Solution

To address the complexities of working within an operational rail environment, Roman Electric’s team underwent specialized railroad construction safety training through the eRail program. This training equipped all workers with the necessary awareness of safety hazards associated with active train stations, enabling them to perform their tasks efficiently while maintaining strict safety standards.
